Communications/Electrical Boxes
The SportsEdge Communication/Electrical Box is a multi-purpose junction box for power and communication needs for athletic field construction. Some example field design and applications may include:

The Communication Box easily handles the installation of all of these or any other track and field utility you might need. Three models, the SEF900, SEF910, and their half size models will accommodate almost any playing surface and surfacing material in many various applications. Whether in a track surface, grass, asphalt pavement or artificial turf, there is a SportsEdge Communication/Electrical Box to fit your application.
Structural .25" aluminum plate makes the units strong, durable and weather resistant. Most importantly, they are fully adaptable to the full range of modern sports surfaces while providing a minimal to zero elevation change in the playing surface. The unique design of the covers accepts 1/2" synthetic track surfacing materials, rubber mat fillers or artificial turf carpet so that the entire unit blends seamlessly into the adjacent surface. The covers are durable and built to last.
Gain quick access to plug-ins through the 5" x 7" hand holes in the main cover. Simply remove the hand hole lid and make your connections. Wires exit through the wire slots when the lids are re-installed. There are no loose parts to keep track of and, best of all, tripping hazards are eliminated.
The 18"W x 30"L box can handle any kind of mounting needs. Each unit offers 11 square feet of mounting area, including the removable center divider plate, which conveniently separates electrical power from communications. The divider can be removed or repositioned as required. Direct mounts are made by drilling right into the aluminum plate. An open bottom allows conduit access along with positive drainage to the drain field below. The Communication Boxes provide corner leveling bolts for easy installation and a threaded stud for connecting grounding wire.

SEF910
Applications: Track surface, Concrete, & Asphalt Areas.
The cover of the SEF910 Communication Box is recessed, forming a 0.5" deep pocket for various synthetic surfacing materials. The rim around the top of the box unit forms a stop strip for the surrounding surface, and allows the cover to insert cleanly and discreetly inside. The surfacing contractor simply applies the track material on the jobsite. The cover secures to the box with a center clevis lock down. After the initial installation, the main cover is removed only to add or repair utilities.
For access during track and field events, two hand holes are built into the cover, one centered over each half. This gives immediate and easy access for plug-in or wire retrieval. Each side of the SEF910 has two removable lids; one solid and one slotted. The solid lid goes in when the box is not in use, keeping utilities safe and dry.
The slotted lid lets wires pass right through, while eliminating tripping hazards. All lids are tethered to the inside of the box, so they can't get lost. When one lid is in use, the other stays inside, out of the way. Hand hole lids on the SEF910 lock securely with a toggle lock. A commonly available 5/16" Allen head wrench is used to tighten or loosen the lid.
For installation into either concrete or asphalt surfaces, use the factory installed Mat Filler Kit, a resilient and non-porous black material which is bonded to the recessed cover.

SEF900, SEF920
Applications: Artificial/Infill Turf Fields
The SEF900 and SEF 920 (half size) Communication Box and cover are designed for use in artificial turf fields. The parts are wrapped with artificial turf carpet on the job site by the turf contractor so that they blend seamlessly into the surrounding field. The carpet is brought over the edge of the box and clamped to anchor it securely in place. When the cover is wrapped, assembled and inserted into the box, the carpet to carpet interface creates a tight friction fit. No cover locks are required. For removal, the cover is simply pulled out by hand. The main cover is made up of pressure treated plywood that is wrapped with turf and then bolted to an aluminum stiffener plate to provide additional strength.
The smaller hand hole lids on the SEF900 are also wrapped and self-retained, just like the main cover. During events, wires are run through the wire chase in the cover, which is exposed when the hand hole lid is removed. When the lids are reinstalled, the wires pass right through the pile of the carpet. There are no unsafe open holes, no loose parts, just resilient materials at the playing surface!
SEF90033
Applications: Grass Athletic Fields
The SEF900 or SEF920 with the SEF 90033 turf option is for use in natural grass fields. The cover is prewrapped with artificial turf and installed at the factory. All cover and lid components are wrapped with carpet and then assembled. A separate piece of carpet is clamped into the box, drawn over the top and secured to the outside. Grass or sod can then be installed right against the side of the box. The SEF90033 blends in well with the grass, and only resilient materials are exposed at the playing surface for an athlete safe box!
